🇭🇺 Saucy Hungarian Red Potato Goulash (Paprikás Krumpli)


🥣 Instructions:

  1. Sauté the Base
    Heat the lard or oil in a large pot. Add chopped onions and sauté until golden. Add garlic and stir briefly.
  2. Add Paprika
    Remove from heat briefly to stir in paprika (to avoid burning). Return to heat and mix well.
  3. Add Potatoes & Sausage
    Stir in chopped potatoes and sausage slices. Season with salt and pepper. Add bell pepper or tomato if using.
  4. Simmer
    Pour in just enough water or broth to almost cover the ingredients. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer uncovered for 25–30 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and the sauce has thickened slightly.
  5. Serve
    Spoon into bowls and top with a dollop of sour cream and fresh parsley if desired. Serve with crusty bread or pickles.

🍽️ Notes:

  • For extra richness, stir in a tablespoon of sour cream or heavy cream near the end.
  • This dish is even better the next day!
