🫑 Hungarian Layered Green Pepper and Sausage Casserole (Rakott Zöldpaprika)


👨‍🍳 INSTRUCTIONS

1. Cook the Rice:

  • Cook rice according to package instructions. Fluff and set aside.

2. Sauté the Base:

  • In a large skillet, heat oil and sauté onion until soft.
  • Add sliced sausage and cook until lightly browned.
  • Stir in paprika, a pinch of salt, and black pepper.

3. Prepare the Casserole Dish:

  • Grease a baking dish.
  • Layer like this:
    1. A layer of green pepper rings
    2. A layer of cooked rice
    3. A layer of sausage-onion mixture
    4. Repeat until ingredients are used up, ending with peppers on top

4. Top with Sour Cream:

  • Mix sour cream with egg (optional, for richness and structure) and spread over the top.
  • Optional: Arrange a few tomato slices for color.

5. Bake:

  • Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).
  • Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
  • Uncover and bake another 10–15 minutes to lightly brown the top.

🍽️ TO SERVE

Serve warm with crusty bread or a cucumber salad (tejfölös uborkasaláta). This dish tastes even better the next day!
