They’re soft, pillowy dumplings made with túró (Hungarian-style cottage cheese), coated in buttery toasted breadcrumbs, and served with sour cream and powdered sugar.


🇭🇺 Hungarian Cottage Cheese Dumplings (Túrógombóc)

Ingredients:

  • 500g (about 1 lb) dry curd cottage cheese or farmer’s cheese (drained if needed)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 100g (about 1/2 cup) semolina (gríz)
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (optional)
  • Zest of 1 lemon (optional but traditional)

For coating:

  • 3–4 tbsp butter
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 2–3 tbsp sugar (to taste)

To serve:

  • Sour cream (optional but common)
  • Powdered sugar
