Eggnog Bread PuddingHungarian 🇭🇺

🔥 Instructions:

1. Preheat & Prep:

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Grease a medium baking dish (8×8 or similar).

2. Soak the Bread:

  • In a large bowl, whisk together eggnog, milk, eggs, sugar, vanilla, spices, lemon zest, and salt.
  • Stir in raisins and rum if using.
  • Gently fold in bread cubes and let soak for 15–20 minutes.

3. Bake:

  • Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish.
  • Bake for 40–50 minutes, or until the top is golden and the center is set (a knife should come out clean).

4. Cool & Serve:

  • Let it cool slightly. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.

🍶 Optional Vanilla Sauce (like in traditional Máglyarakás):

  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • Pinch of salt
➡️ Heat milk and sugar. Stir in cornstarch slurry until thickened. Add vanilla and pour warm sauce over servings.

🇭🇺 Hungarian Tip:

  • For an extra Hungarian touch, spread a thin layer of apricot jam on the bread before soaking, or add a thin meringue topping in the last 10 minutes of baking like Máglyarakás.
