
Instructions
- Cook noodles
- Boil egg noodles in salted water until just tender. Drain and set aside.
- Fry cabbage & onion
- In a large skillet or Dutch oven, melt butter.
- Add onion and sauté until golden.
- Stir in cabbage, season with salt, pepper, and paprika.
- Cook on medium heat for 15–20 minutes, stirring often, until cabbage is soft, caramelized, and slightly browned.
- Optional meaty version
- If using bacon/sausage, cook it first until crispy, then use the drippings + butter to fry the cabbage.
- Combine
- Toss cooked noodles into the cabbage mixture. Adjust seasoning with more salt and pepper if needed.
- Serve
- Garnish with fresh parsley and enjoy warm.
👉 In Hungary, some families also top it with a spoon of sour cream or even serve it alongside roasted meats.
