Hungarian Noodles and Cabbage🇭🇺

👩‍🍳 Instructions:

1. Cook the Noodles:

  • Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
  • Cook the egg noodles until al dente, then drain and set aside.

2. Sauté the Cabbage:

  1. In a large skillet or pot, heat butter and oil over medium heat.
  2. Add chopped onion and sauté until soft and golden.
  3. Add the shredded cabbage, sprinkle with salt and optional sugar, and stir well.
  4. Cook uncovered, stirring often, for 15–20 minutes, until the cabbage is soft, golden, and slightly caramelized.

3. Combine:

  • Add the cooked noodles to the cabbage mixture.
  • Toss everything together and season with black pepper (and more salt if needed).
  • Add a bit more butter if it looks dry.

🍽️ Serving Ideas:

  • Serve hot as a main or side dish.
  • Pairs well with roast meats, fried sausages, or simply with a dollop of sour cream.
  • Some people like it with a dusting of powdered sugar — a nod to sweet-savory tradition.

❤️ Optional Add-Ins:

  • Caraway seeds (1/2 tsp) for a traditional twist
  • Chopped smoked bacon or sausage
  • A pinch of paprika
