Instructions
- Cook the noodles
- Boil egg noodles in salted water according to package instructions. Drain and set aside. Optionally, toss lightly with a bit of butter so they don’t stick.
- Prepare the cheese mixture
- In a bowl, combine cottage cheese, sugar, eggs, vanilla extract, and raisins. Mix until smooth. If you like a creamier version, stir in the sour cream or milk.
- Assemble the layers
- Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).
- Grease a 9×13 inch (or similar) baking dish.
- Layer half of the noodles on the bottom. Spread half of the cheese mixture on top.
- Repeat with the remaining noodles and cheese mixture.
- Top and bake
- Drizzle the melted butter over the top.
- Bake for 35–40 minutes, until the top is lightly golden and the mixture is set.
- Serve
- Let it cool slightly before serving. Dust with powdered sugar if desired. Can be served warm or at room temperature.
💡 Tips & Variations:
- Some recipes add a custard layer for extra richness.
- You can sprinkle cinnamon or lemon zest in the cheese mixture for a fragrant twist.
- Leftovers taste even better the next day as the flavors meld together.
If you want, I can also give you a “quick and extra indulgent” version that’s more like a Hungarian comfort food dessert, with layers of sweetened noodles, cream, and even a hint of chocolate.
Do you want me to share that version too?
